Volunteer Info
We don’t currently have any active response projects. Contact Tom at info@HODR.org if you’re interested in volunteering on a future HODR project and read the information below to learn more. Check back to this site during active projects for detailed FAQs.
The Basics
We are a ‘response’ organization, not a ‘reconstruction’ organization. We try to come in quickly, fill in gaps left by governmental and non-governmental agencies, and then we move on. Our projects typically focus on the initial 1-6 months following a disaster.
We do not charge a participation fee to volunteer. You get yourself to the project, and in return we provide shelter, food, and a rewarding and unique volunteer experience. You are welcome to volunteer with us even if you choose to stay elsewhere. If you’re looking for an easy way to support HODR, or engage your friends and family who can’t volunteer with you, set up a Firstgiving page! Click here to check out one volunteer’s page for ideas.
There is no minimum or maximum stay - join us for one day, one week, one month, or more! Typically, we work six days a week.
Our minimum age is 18 years old, unless accompanied by a parent/guardian. Parents, please contact us at info@HODR.org for more information before coming.
HODR does not have medical capacity and strongly suggests that volunteers acquire travel insurance - it is very affordable and can go a long way in time of need.
Support HODR when you book travel arrangements
When you book or buy through Expedia, Priceline, Amazon and other partner sites via our website up to 15% of your sale is automatically donated to HODR! Use the Shop tab at the top of this page to find what you’re looking for on your volunteer trip and any other travels.
**NOTE: Keep in mind that booking your travel arrangements or travel insurance through our website does not ensure a volunteer reservation at a project. Please contact Tom at info@HODR.org to arrange your time on a HODR project.
